Fillings
Amalgam Fillings
We provide strong and durable amalgam fillings for patients. Made from mercury, tin, copper, and silver, this material will give many years of satisfactory service. The only disadvantage is that these fillings may not be aesthetically appealing.
Tooth-Coloured Fillings
More similar to the tooth than the amalgam option, our tooth-coloured fillings are made from composite resin. This option is available in various shades to match your natural teeth, making them invisible to others when you laugh or smile. We also replace old amalgam or stained fillings with new tooth-coloured fillings, providing a cosmetic enhancement that blends in with your natural teeth.
Dental Crowns and Onlays/Inlays
Our dentists provide dental crowns and onlays/inlays for worn-down teeth. Crowns are used to restore severely broken teeth and protect what is left of the original tooth structure. This entails trimming down the tooth, taking an impression, and manufacturing a crown, which will then be cemented in place with a special adhesive.
On the other hand, onlays and inlays are used to protect your remaining tooth structure. Manufactured in our laboratory, this option offers partial coverage. For both crowns and onlays/inlays, we have several materials available to provide function and durability, including:

Dental Bridges
When you have lost a tooth, a dental bridge can provide a fixed way of replacing the gap. this can be achieved either by preparing the adjacent teeth for crowns or by sticking the false tooth to the adjacent teeth without much preparation. This form of treatment may not be suitable in all cases, so please get in touch for further details.
Extractions
In some cases, teeth must be removed, whether it’s due to extensive dental disease (decay or gum problems) that cannot be repaired or to relieve over-crowding prior to having braces. Extractions are normally carried out under local anaesthetic, but we offer the option of sedation for anxious patients if they prefer. Please note that some teeth are more difficult to extract and may require a small surgical procedure.
Root Canal Treatment
When a tooth is extensively decayed or infected, a root canal treatment is the process of removing the nerve and blood supply to the tooth. This can also happen if the tooth is accidentally damaged by trauma. Root canal treatments usually take a couple of appointments to complete and are typically followed by a crown to protect the tooth.
Dentures
Designed to be removable, a denture is a way to replace missing teeth. Made in various stages, dentures are available with a choice of plastic (acrylic) or metal (cobalt chrome) base to which the false teeth are attached.
A great deal of time and care is taken when deciding upon the type of prosthesis, or “appliance”, that each patient requires. The success of a denture relies upon a combination of many complex factors, which is why we pay close attention to their needs and ensure they make an informed decision about whether to choose a denture or a dental implant.

Dental Implants
Unlike dentures, a dental implant is a non-removable replacement for a missing tooth. It is designed to feel and function more like a natural tooth and holds the advantage of being a fixed option. It also doesn’t compromise adjacent teeth, which may be the case with a dental bridge.
Almost all dental implants in use today are made from titanium or titanium alloy, materials that have been shown over many years to be well tolerated by bone. We will then fit a porcelain crown on top of the implant so that the space is filled by a fixed and permanent prosthetic that looks just like a natural tooth. Patients with multiple missing teeth can also benefit from this fixed solution.
The procedure is usually quite straightforward and pain-free. Following an initial consultation, we create study models of your teeth to help with the planning phase of your treatment. The first stage of treatment commences with the placing of an implant, usually followed by a period of some weeks or months to allow the implant to integrate into the bone surrounding it.
Following this, the top of the implant is exposed, and a crown is fitted permanently into place. Implants can either be placed to either replace a single tooth or support a denture. This means the denture is permanently fixed into the implants, to avoid the embarrassment of poorly fitted dentures that impede talking, laughing, and eating.
The success of dental implant treatment is very high with a positive and predictable outcome being as high as 95%. Very occasionally, a dental implant may fail to integrate into the bone. Please note that we always recommend that patients who smoke stop smoking during treatment at least and permanently if at all possible.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments
Veneers
Created from tooth-coloured composite/porcelain, a veneer is a thin front surface for a tooth, often used to mask discolouration and staining. This can also cover chipped teeth, close gaps, and give the appearance of correct dental positioning. Most of all, veneers make a marked cosmetic difference to your smile.
Flexible Nylon Bridge
As a removable hybrid between a bridge and a denture, a flexible nylon bridge offers the advantage of being less bulky and extensive than conventional dentures, and yet does not involve removing sound tooth structure from adjacent teeth. This metal-free option is manufactured for optimal flexibility.
Teeth Whitening
As our teeth become darker over time because of staining or ageing, many people would prefer their teeth to be whiter. Various teeth whitening options are available at the Ashcroft Dental Surgery, including one you can carry out at home. We provide custom-fitting bleaching trays that patients wear for an hour or so a day for 2 to 3 weeks. We provide clear and precise instructions and keep patients under close supervision to ensure you get simple, pain-free, and dazzlingly effective results.
Dental Care for Children
We understand that our mission to prevent tooth decay and gum disease starts early in life for our patients. It is essential to establish good oral hygiene habits as early in a child’s life as possible to prevent the eventual development of gum disease.
Providing friendly, expert dental care for children, we offer information about the importance of dietary choices as well as general advice about wearing and teething. We also provide fluoride treatments and fissure sealants for children who are susceptible to tooth decay, and customised sports guards to protect against traumatic dental injuries during contact sports.
